Today I saw a white feather floating down over my head in Times Square.   Anyone who has visited New York, knows that this area is full of people and usually very loud, crazy and more than a little dirty! (…especially in the summertime)   It was such a magical moment and I took a mini-break from my busy day to observe its presence.

When I see a feather, it makes me think that someone above is watching over me and always brings a smile to my face knowing that I’m not alone in any given moment.  It’s easy to become so absorbed in our days and lives, that we never look up to see the beauty and magic in the world.  Nature is always communicating with us, reminding us that we are connected to each other, as well as, a higher source of guidance.  Feathers can remind to you be “light” in your heart and to see the “light” in your everyday surroundings.

Practice the art of being “light as a feather” in your day, see what happens to your own heart. ♥

How many times in life do you find yourself praying and hoping for a dream to be fulfilled?  You find yourself lost in the thought of how you are going to achieve this dream.  You know, the strategy… you try to work it!

“If I did this or I acted this way, if I was available or not available, if I followed up or didn’t follow up…”  the list goes on and on depending on the outcome your are trying to achieve. What I notice about all this strategy is an element of control.  We try to control the situation and affect it to achieve the outcome that is the most desirable for us.  There it is, the problem… control.

Notice how you feel in your body when you are trying to control a situation.  For me, my neck and jaw are the truth.  If my neck is killing me and my jaw hurts, you better believe that I’m trying to control a situation.  I’m laughing just thinking about this!  It’s so obvious…

Believing in a power greater than yourself requires a willingness to release control and have faith that the events in your life are unfolding for your greater good…

Practice adding those three words to your daily meditations.  Notice how you feel when you hope for something that is for your greater good.  For me, it’s  a well of peace.  Experience it for yourself. ♥

I’m not sure why, I never am about these postings, but today I woke up thinking about yokes!  I’m laughing as I write these words, my mind is always a mystery.  I know the word yoke has many meanings.  The one I’m most familiar with is the one that relates to clothing, it’s a piece the garment that “joins” or “bridges” with another to improve fit.

Yokes can also be symbolic.  Today I am thinking about the yoke of the mind.  The mental burdens that we all carry that become yokes…  we join in them and pull them along in life.  They are heavy, they can be controlling, and limit our ability to experience life in a joyful way.  They enslave us…  Some of us travel with yokes for a lifetime.  Even writing these words I am overwhelmed by this thought.  Imagine all the lifetime experiences you have faced and will face, then include these hidden, mental burdens that are always running in the background.  No wonder we get weary.

Inside every one of us is a well of peace.  It’s unlimited… It’s always available and it releases the burden of the mental yokes we carry inside.  When you trust this inner wisdom and surrender the burden of the yoke, the well of peace is opened, and flows through you.  You are free to live the life in front of you with joy.

Experience the peace for yourself…  surrender your own mental yokes.  What are you waiting for…♥

Have you ever thought of how choice affects your life?  Think of all the decisions you make consciously or unconsciously on a daily basis.  Imagine them all creating a bigger picture…  This becomes your reality.  We are all constantly choosing our lives…

That is a little hard to hear, right?  I mean, so many times I’ve heard people describing events that supposedly just “happened”.  I always wonder what choices were made prior to that moment.  I especially think of this when I encounter someone who has extraordinarily bad luck.  I mean, seriously, they get the whammy!  Mostly, I’m seeing the end result of a series of choices, some conscious, some unconscious.

Ok, but why am I writing about choice today?  Because, it’s possible to manifest all kinds of happiness, joy, and beauty in our lives by being conscious of our choices.  Not just the big choices, but the little ones too.  Try an experiment for this week.  If you are trying to welcome something into your life, think of how you are going to do it.  Now, each day, choose to do something that will lead you closer to your dream.  See how that series of choices affects your world.  Be patient.  Let me know how it goes…

Building a life based on choice is so empowering!  Experience it for yourself…♥

Today is a gorgeous day in Brooklyn.  It’s completely clear and the sky and water are the most beautiful shades of blue…  Especially the water.  It’s that perfect combination of green and blue.

I rode my bike to the Brooklyn Bridge to sit in the sunshine and have coffee.  I positioned myself in front of the carousel which was full of little kids!  There must have been some event happening, because I was suddenly swarmed by 2-year-old little boys and girls.  My God, they are so cute and so funny.  It was a bit like being swarmed by bees, but in a good way.  What I noticed most about them, is they smile and laugh with their entire body… I mean how can you not be hypnotized by such beauty!

They must have been handing out balloons for this event, because they were flying all over the place.  The colors painted such a pretty picture against that brilliant blue sky.  Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a little boy running along with a red balloon.  He suddenly let go of the balloon!  The wind took it and it floated over the railing and down to the water.  Oh dear, his face… first it was total disbelief, then came the sadness.  I looked at him and said “OH, NO”!  He clouded up and rained just like a storm.  His Dad, was quickly by his side, comforting him and telling him it would be ok.  It was so sweet to watch.

What happened next is another example of magic in the Universe.  That balloon, floated up from the water, back over the railing, directly across the walkway and into the hands of the little boy!  I swear on my grandma’s grave!  OMG… I mean, I started looking around.  Did anyone else see that?  It was fantastic!  The little boy’s face was just pure joy.  That moment was right out of a movie.  It was, in my mind, a complete example of heaven on earth.  I sat for a moment, so humbled by this beautiful sight.

Letting go of a balloon is a lot like losing something you love in life.  The instant it happens is so heart wrenching.  Seeing this on a child’s face is a perfect example of how we, as adults, feel on the inside.   What if letting go is for the greater good?  Maybe we’ve been clinging to something that needs to be released.  What if letting go will actually free you to RECEIVE what is really yours?   Just like the red balloon that found its way home to the little boy.  ♥

I was out to dinner with a good friend the other night.  We were discussing a series of events that had transpired in her life since I last saw her.  Her description of the journey made me think of a really fun ride at an amusement park, thrills and laughs at the same time!

Have you ever thought of life as an amusement park?  Think of the park itself.  It’s got something for everyone.  There are games, parks, water features, food, shopping, benches… and of course the RIDES!!  I am a big fan of the rides.  The roller coasters are my favorite.  They have unexpected twists and turns, big highs and deep valleys,  speed and slow motion.  I recently rode the famous Coney Island Cyclone.  It did not disappoint!  I loved every minute of it and I smiled for days afterward.

Life can be like a really fun ride… There are some highs and lows and a lot of little twists and turns, but the end result of the journey brings a smile to your face and a fond memory of the trip.  Start looking at your journey in this way.  Add some new adventures if you seem to be missing the fun.  ♥

I was out with friends the other night to see an off-Broadway play.  Broadway plays are performed in the big theaters that hold 500 seats or more.  Off-Broadway plays are performed in smaller more intimate theaters all over the city.  Visiting these theaters is sometimes as good as seeing the play, as many of them are full of great architecture and character.

This night was all impromptu.  My friends called last-minute to ask if I would join them to see this play written by their friend.  I immediately said yes and our adventure was under way.  When we arrived at the theater, we took the “sketchy” elevator to the 4rth floor.  The doors opened to this cozy living room with deep couches and an antique bar.  After a glass of wine, we all entered the room that held the stage.

The play itself was dark and heavy, but even though there were no big sets or props, we were all instantly transported into the world dreamed up by the author.  It was amazing to see this snippet of another world created in the simplicity of an old theater.  As the play finished, we all acknowledged the great acting and writing.

Stepping out to catch the elevator down, the unexpected happened.  The elevator was out of service, so we needed to take the stairs down to the street.  As my friend opened the door to the stairs, I saw the most intricate and beautiful staircase!  It was an iron cylinder with spiral, marble stairs wrapping their way down around it.  WOW! I mean it was amazing.  I spent the good part of the next 20 minutes trying to capture it with my iPhone camera.  The detail and design were so unique.  Even the aging process of the marble, iron and brass came together to make so much beauty.

This lovely, old staircase made me think that life is unexpected.  Around the corner of your everyday routine, there can be so much magic and beauty, we just have to appreciate and share it.  Remembering to stop and appreciate the unexpected things that appear on your path in life is another way to live in the moment and really cherish life.  The next time you encounter the beauty of something unexpected, stop and absorb its magic… ♥

I had an early morning conversation with one of my clients the other day.  I asked her at what age it was going to be ok to stop trying to be beautiful before you leave the house in the morning.  We both had a good laugh and exchanged stories of last minute hair and shoe changes, etc.  Then she said the most wonderful thing…

She said at a certain point you become wise, and you realize all the external stuff relating to beauty is just fluff and in this wise moment you become truly beautiful.  She went on to share with me a tragedy that affected her very early in her life.  It filled her with shame and kept her from really living in her own beauty. Her own wise moment followed a very challenging life circumstance.

I was completely surprised that she shared such a personal story with me.  I also knew right away what a wonderful message she was passing on to me.  Now I’m passing it on to you all, there is nothing more beautiful than a wise woman!  ♥

I found myself looking through old photos the other night.  I have boxes of these things, all documenting my journey in life.  Every time I go through them, I am reminded of just how far I’ve come.  (I also think they need to be organized and in a better format… projects, projects!)

My life has been so different from what I imagined it would be as I was growing up.  I always imagined I’d have a big wedding, a big house, and a bunch of kids and dogs!  I didn’t even want to go to college.  I remember begging my parents to let me go to beauty school.  I could not understand why they wouldn’t let me just do “good hair”.   I never once thought that I would end up getting a Master’s degree, living in New York city, working in the fashion industry as a consultant, traveling the world, living in a condo, taking boxing classes, etc… You see where I’m going with this.

My life has been completely different from my imagination, yet it has exceeded my expectations for myself.  As I reviewed those photos, I see that the Universe has had a plan for me all along and I have been on course from the very beginning.  Just as Steve Jobs said in his famous speech, I have been able to look back and connect the dots that lead me to where I am today.  You know what?  I don’t always understand the events that come to pass, but I am grateful and I know that the “master plan” is in play.  I trust and have faith that my life is moving according to plan, even when I don’t recognize it!

How does your life look from the rearview mirror?  Do you see the path?  How does that make you feel?  Remember that we are all guided and trust that your path is unfolding exactly as it should. ♥

Remember the television show Ally McBeal?  It was about a young lawyer and her attempts to navigate life in the working world.  One of my favorite episodes was when her therapist suggested she choose a theme song to play in her head as she went about her day.  It was to help boost her into a better state of mind.  This episode was so brilliant and funny!  The song plays in her head and soon all those around her are singing along…

Sometimes in life, you just need a theme song.  It doesn’t have to be the same song all the time, but something that is relevant to what you are facing at the moment.  I’ll give you an example.  Last week, was the official end of the holiday and everyone returned to work after time off.  I always struggle with this time of year, mainly because of the weather, but also just the sadness that another year is gone.  So this year, I decided to choose a theme song to boost me along during the week.  I chose, “happy people” by R.Kelly.  I found my headphones and walked around through my days and nights playing this song.  You know what?  It really helped!  It made me feel like dancing and smiling.  The next thing I knew, it was Friday and I was jumping into another weekend.

Music is just that powerful.  It is a great tool in the journey of life.  So, what are you waiting for…choose your own theme song!  Let me know how it goes. ♥
