Remember the television show Ally McBeal? It was about a young lawyer and her attempts to navigate life in the working world. One of my favorite episodes was when her therapist suggested she choose a theme song to play in her head as she went about her day. It was to help boost her into a better state of mind. This episode was so brilliant and funny! The song plays in her head and soon all those around her are singing along…
Sometimes in life, you just need a theme song. It doesn’t have to be the same song all the time, but something that is relevant to what you are facing at the moment. I’ll give you an example. Last week, was the official end of the holiday and everyone returned to work after time off. I always struggle with this time of year, mainly because of the weather, but also just the sadness that another year is gone. So this year, I decided to choose a theme song to boost me along during the week. I chose, “happy people” by R.Kelly. I found my headphones and walked around through my days and nights playing this song. You know what? It really helped! It made me feel like dancing and smiling. The next thing I knew, it was Friday and I was jumping into another weekend.
Music is just that powerful. It is a great tool in the journey of life. So, what are you waiting for…choose your own theme song! Let me know how it goes. ♥
My theme since before Christmas has been “Joy”, so my song is “Joy to the World” and it has sustained me through some trying times during the holiday and keeps coming to my mind through many different means. I’m hanging on to joy throughout the year!
love that word! joy is a good one… and i love that you are using it for the year! Happy 2012 to you!
