So, Its Sunday, my first post.  I am so nervous to be writing these words.  As we all know, “firsts” are scary, but in a good way!  It means something is propelling you forward, on a path that is new, and can mean you are changing course in life.

Let’s make this one about “firsts”, you know, your first kiss, your first high heels, your first big job, your first baby, etc.  Life is filled with many of these first time experiences.  The feelings that come along with them are both anxiety producing and exhilarating at the same time.  It seems when you are young, there are so many firsts, that we are conditioned for them.  We jump into the deep end without really thinking about what lies ahead.

I recently rode in a pedi-cab in NYC for the first time.  I have always watched these go by, thinking I am way too chubby to ride that thing!  Last Thursday night, I was waiting for a taxi, and I wasn’t too lucky, so hopped in to a pedi-cab.  At first, I was unsettled, and not able to relax, wondering if every car on 5th Avenue was observing my ride.  As time went by, I got more calm, and I was able to take in all the sights and sounds of the NYC night.  It was magic, like a mini vacation in the middle of every day life.  I took some great pictures along the way.  After I left the cab, I felt energized and happy that I was brave and opened myself up to this life experience.

As we mature and become more established in who we are (for example “chubby”), the firsts dwindle and we limit ourselves in life. When was the last time you tried something new?  How did it make you feel?  Was there any expectation attached to it or was it just for the pleasure of being challenged with something new?
